Helping people access essential preventive health services

If you're still paying out-of-pocket for your birth control and other preventive health care, we can help.

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), most health insurance plans must cover all FDA-approved, cleared, or granted birth control – and related services – and other important preventive health care needs, including breastfeeding supplies, lactation consultations, and well-woman visits. Use our information below to find if your insurance company is incorrectly charging you and how to get these services covered.

In addition to helping people get coverage of preventive services, we advocate for insurance reform and for better guidance from government agencies about the Affordable Care Act. It is helpful to us in our advocacy if we are able to share data and stories of plans violating the ACA. We are very appreciative of any and all information you can provide. Note that if we do share stories, all information will be shared ANONYMOUSLY - without any identifying information.

How much are you being billed or told you will have to pay for your preventative service? If you are being charged for birth control pills, please indicate how much per month/per refill you are being charged (e.g. $35 per month for a 1 month supply or $80 per month for a 3 month supply).
Please include any relevant documents. It is helpful to use to have:
  • 1. A copy of your plan benefits details (a booklet outlining what your plan does and does not cover)
  • 2. Appeal denial letters
  • 3. Any communications between you and your insurance provider (such as screen shots of chat messages, letters, etc.)
